1. 1. Read transmission (TCM) sub-codes

   P0700 is just a request from the TCM that the check-engine light come on — the real fault is a separate P07xx code. Pull those.

   Test: Scan transmission module codes.

   Expected: Identify the specific P07xx code(s).

2. 2. Check transmission fluid level and condition

   Many trans faults trace to low or burnt fluid.

   Test: Dipstick/level check at correct temperature.

   Expected: Fluid at level, not burnt.

3. 3. Diagnose the specific sub-code

   Work the actual code (e.g. solenoid, speed sensor, ratio) rather than P0700 itself.

   Test: Follow the guide for the specific P07xx code.

   Expected: Root sub-code addressed.
