Work through these in order — cheapest and safest checks first, before replacing expensive parts.

1. 1. Check engine oil level and condition

   VVT faults are very often oil-related. Verify level and that oil/filter are not overdue.

   Test: Dipstick and service history.

   Expected: Oil at level, clean, recently serviced.

2. 2. Test the camshaft (VVT) solenoid

   A stuck or dirty intake cam actuator/solenoid sets over-advanced timing.

   Test: Multimeter solenoid resistance; inspect screen for debris.

   Expected: Resistance per spec; clean screen.

3. 3. Inspect wiring and oil control valve

   Check the solenoid connector and oil control valve for sludge.

   Test: Visual + continuity on the solenoid circuit.

   Expected: Clean, good continuity.
